Charming Political-Social Winebar in Mitte: Freundschaft

Freundschaft is as delightful as ever. Few spots in political Berlin are as seamlessly integrated, yet they attract a diverse crowd—many with no connection to politics at all. It’s beautifully lit for the darker months, anchored by a glowing round wooden bar at the centre of the space. The wine selection is excellent, with glasses starting at €8 per 0.1 l.

The food is very good too—while some dishes start around €10, budgeting about €20 per main plate is more realistic. Overall, I’d recommend planning for a slightly higher budget to truly enjoy the experience. If you haven’t visited yet, their Instagram page gives a great first impression.

After one more Blaufränkisch, the world could end… This place feels like “home, only better”—the hallmark of a true local bar. Whether it’s a sleek cocktail lounge or a worn-in pub, something special emerges when everything clicks. At Freundschaft, they’ve nailed it: excellent wines (plus beer and fresh gin tonics), tasty freshly prepared food, and the best service in Mitte. It’s not cheap—otherwise, I’d be there all the time.
