Diplomacy on the Fairway: Ambassadors Cup 2025 at Groß Kienitz
Under a bright late-summer sky, diplomats, business leaders, and invited guests gathered at the scenic Groß Kienitz Golf Club in Brandenburg for the Ambassadors Cup 2025. As Berliner Morgenpost reports, the annual tournament — organized by the Ambassadors Club — has become a highlight of Berlin’s diplomatic calendar, offering participants an opportunity to combine sport with informal dialogue.

A Day for Both Beginners and Pros
Ambassadors Club President Dr. h.c. Mania Feilcke-Dierck and Vice-President Martin Hoeck welcomed participants representing a wide cross-section of Berlin’s diplomatic community. While experienced golfers competed on the Robert-Baker course, newcomers such as the Ambassador of Kenya and the First Secretary of the Embassy of Oman took their first swings under professional guidance on the short course — a reminder that the event is as much about participation as competition.
Ambassador of Laos Steals the Show
One of the day’s most memorable performances came from H.E. Mayboua Xayavong, Ambassador of Laos, who delighted his flight partners with a birdie from a bunker on the second hole and a chip-in from the fringe for par just two holes later. Beyond his skill, he impressed with his sportsmanship — retrieving lost balls from the rough for the entire group.
A colleague from the Lao Embassy added with a smile: “He bought that iron this morning at the pro shop — for just 29 euros.”
Celebrating the Winners
The prestigious Lalique crystal vase, the official Ambassadors Cup trophy, was presented to Ambassador Xayavong at the closing ceremony. Other winners enjoyed week-long test drives of electric vehicles provided by tournament sponsor NIO. Entrepreneur Horst Geicke introduced plans for his Big Green Business Park in Brandenburg and proudly pointed out that the custom golf shirts he sponsored fit perfectly.
Dinner and Diplomacy
The day concluded with a celebratory dinner featuring beef filet with chanterelles and tuna on glass-noodle salad, paired with chilled Crémant Rosé — the perfect toast to friendship, cooperation, and the continuation of this unique tradition that brings Berlin’s diplomatic community closer together.
