Friday, 18 July 2025

The Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced that career diplomat Juraj Macháč has assumed his post as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany. Macháč, who previously held the position of Director General of the Personnel Department and Deputy Secretary General at the ministry, brings extensive diplomatic experience, including prior ambassadorial roles in The Hague and Vienna. On Friday, he was formally accredited by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at a ceremony in Berlin.

Ambassador Macháč’s appointment comes at a time of robust and multifaceted relations between Slovakia and Germany. Rooted in the Treaty on Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation, bilateral ties encompass close cooperation within the European Union and Nato, thriving economic relations—with Germany being Slovakia’s largest trading partner—and numerous cultural and academic exchanges. Nearly 600 German companies maintain investments in Slovakia, supporting around 160,000 jobs.

With his deep diplomatic expertise and experience across European capitals, Ambassador Macháč is expected to further enhance the strong partnership between Slovakia and Germany, focusing on political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
