Angola Appoints New Ambassador to Germany
Maria Isabel G. Godinho De Resende Encoge has officially assumed her post as Angola’s new ambassador to Germany, presenting her credentials to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on July 18, 2025. She brings significant international experience, having previously represented Angola with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague and engaged in multilateral diplomacy.
Germany and Angola maintain longstanding bilateral relations, marked by cooperation in economic, educational, and development sectors. German companies such as Siemens, Bosch, and Volkswagen have invested in Angola, bilateral trade reached approximately €640 million in 2023, and over 2,000 Angolans have studied in Germany since the 1970s. Both countries continue to pursue cultural exchange and political dialogue, supported by agreements and joint initiatives.
De Resende succeeds Balbina Malheiros Dias da Silva, who was the first woman to serve as Angola’s ambassador to Germany since 2019. The Angolan Embassy in Berlin remains a key point of contact for advancing diplomatic relations and supporting Angolan citizens in Germany.
